Submission to the Royal Commission on COVID-19 Lessons Learned

Throughout the pandemic, NZ Airports played a key role in the airport sector’s response and in the government’s management of aviation as an essential service. NZ Airports was the liaison between the New Zealand airport sector and the government, predominantly through the Ministry of Transport. We also played a role in cooperation with New Zealand’s international airports and the airline sector (broadly defined) in joint discussions with the Government on how international aviation could remain operating and how the aviation border restrictions could be implemented. These two roles gave us an excellent viewpoint on how the system of pandemic management by the Government operated during the pandemic and how it performed with regards to aviation.
