NZ Airports submission on Going for Housing Growth
The Government has sought feedback on a discussion document on housing growth as part of developing the new resource management system.
In our submission, we highlight that NZ Airports supports the Government’s objective to unlock abundant, feasible urban development capacity. Airports benefit from growth and are incentivised for volume – their commercial and operational settings favour high throughput and efficient service delivery. Good growth policy must support quality decision-making around land use compatibility, to ensure airports and other infrastructure entities can increase their services to support population growth.
By explicitly recognising infrastructure effects areas, maintaining the application of Aircraft Noise
Overlays and Obstacle Limitation Surfaces, and embedding infrastructure-provider engagement into
spatial planning and intensification frameworks, the new system can enable housing at scale, support compatible business growth, and safeguard the essential infrastructure that underpins our cities’ long-term success. In this way, the reforms will not only enable housing at scale but also sustain the commercial, employment, and connectivity benefits that help communities thrive.
