Climate Change Commission Consultation

26 Jun 2024

NZ Airports finished an important submission this month – our feedback to the Climate Change Commission’s consultation on whether international aviation and maritime emissions should be included in the 2050 target. This is the first time quite a complex position on aviation decarbonisation has been articulated and I encourage members to take a look at our final document, which was prepared with the support of the Sustainability Working Group.

Our submission highlighted the fact that while airports are supportive in principle of inclusion, there are different views about when this should happen. However, all airports are focused on the importance of government policy and regulatory attention on aviation decarbonisation, including on sustainable aviation fuel access and renewable electricity infrastructure.

Thank you to those who debated and tested our ideas on this important consultation. The Climate Change Commission will release its final advice to government before the end of the year.
